Over the years organized crime has had it's share of informers, guys who have worked out deals with the FBI in order to get themselves lighter sentences or immunity from prosecution. These informers are often given new identities and relocated together with their families to states far from thier old stomping ground. The Witness Protection Program helps to protect the informers from those who may seek retribution on behalf of those convicted on the testimony of the informers.
